Event Description
Mayfest celebrates its eighth year with seven guest artists presented in seven concerts in four beautiful Ithaca locations. We are delighted to present the Chiaroscuro Quartet, a fantastic, young group from London making their U.S. debut, as well as three guests known to Ithaca: clarinetist Chen Halevi, violinist Yehonatan Berick, and cellist Clancy Newman. In addition, we feature performances by a diverse pool of local talent: the i3° jazz trio, the Ithaca Children's Choir, the Shuhan Family of musicians, and faculty and students from both hills. The festival opens on Saturday, May 16, with a concert in Barnes Hall and wraps up the following Thursday in Milstein Hall, with a double-header on Sunday! The festival is framed by two Stravinsky masterworks, The Rite of Spring (piano, four hands) and a presentation of L'Histoire du soldat. In between is a smorgasbord of classical works played on gut strings, jazz, improv, Brahms's great B-flat string sextet, two premieres by the very gifted composer Tonia Ko, and an all-Mozart program including a performance of the Piano Concerto, K. 414, featuring Malcolm Bilson. Tickets are again easy to purchase online without a service fee--or at the door, so we hope you will again join us for this annual musical feast!
